BBC Radiophonic Workshop Desks
This is my 100th post for Balance, so I thought I would do something a bit different. Here is a review of the various consoles used by the totally great Radiophonic Workshop over the years

SSL E Series
For some reason I haven't posted much about SSL desks. Maybe they don't come up for sale so often or something, or maybe they don't catch my eye so much, which is pretty odd considering how into early 80s stuff I am. Anyway here is a great looking console from 1982

Yamaha Vintage Consoles
I have certainly been neglecting our Japanese friends in this blog, as pointed out by Brandin, who refurbishes these beautiful consoles

Cheap Cadac - OK it was a scam
Another bargain it seems on eBay. UPDATE via Wolfgang Willms - seems this was a scammy auction. Here is the feedback from the buyer: "This is a scam. Seller won't reply to emails. Avoid!"

Some Neve History
I found some information from Geoff Tanner about the history of some of the classic Neve consoles, like the beautiful 8014 below. So I took the liberty of illustrating his words with some more pictures from his website

Neve VR
I visited a studio in Brixton, London yesterday for the recording of some strings for an album we're doing. They had a massive Neve VR so I got some pics of it. It really is enormous this thing

Stephens Console
Here is a great Stephens Electronics 2416 console from the early 70s. Its on ebay for a rather hopeful $50,000
Strawberry Studios
I just found this youtube by accident, and it happens to contain footage of this console. It's from Strawberry Studios in Stockport, which was mostly known for 10cc recordings, but also saw the likes of The Smiths and Joy Division. In the wiki page it mentions "a real purpose-built control desk"....
Unknown Console 3 [UPDATE: its a Helios]
Note theres a Yamaha Rev1 remote on the console, I love those things
UPDATE VIA Wolfgang Willms - This is the '10cc console' see also this post
